BENEFITS TO COUNCILS, COMMUNITY & THE ENVIRONMENT

(1) Water Resources Benefits.
(2) Waste Control Benefits.
(3) Economic Benefits.
(4) Environmental and Health Benefits.
(5) Community & Local Government Benefits.
(6) O.H. &. S. Benefits.
(7) Legalisation, Acts and Standards Benefits.
(8) Hidden costs.
(1) Water Resources Benefits
-
The current practice of bin washing by individuals results in billions of litres of precious drinking water (up to 100 litres per bin per wash) being poured into the storm water system and in to our marine environment.
-
This toxicant and pollutant contaminated water is classified by the EPA as sewerage and dumping into our gutters is not only killing our rivers and streams but is subject to prosecution and severe penalties under the Environment Protection Act.
-
In Victoria, Australia up to 2 billion items of rubbish find their way into Port Phillip Bay alone.
-
This rubbish also poses significant stress and cost on our aging storm water systems.
-
The FreshBins process uses only 63ml of water per bin (less than half a cup).
(2) Waste Control Benefits
-
All waste collected is sterilised and fully recycled.
-
In Victoria Australia around 1 to 1.5 kg of rubbish and toxicants remain in each bin after emptying. Across the State’s 9.8 million bins this amounts to a potential of between 10,000 to 14,250 tonnes of toxic waste and rubbish entering our waterways each year. Is it any wonder that the EPA estimate that if everyone on the planet lived the same was as Victorians do we would need three planets to sustain life!!
-
Minimisation of illegal dumping and disposal of waste.
-
Benefits for local councils in pressure reduction on waste systems.
-
Reallocation of resources to other productive areas.
-
Accurate collection and tracking of data.
(3) Economic Benefits
-
FreshBins volume handling capacity means that bins can be cleaned at substantially less cost than by other means, including self cleaning by an individual householder.
-
FreshBins is proudly Australian and purchases and/or manufactures all possible parts and products locally.
-
Potential water savings for Victoria Australia alone provide for water supply for up to 210,000 new homes in that State alone.
-
For Councils there is reduced pressure on staff currently acting as bin cleaners and reduced liability for injuries and illness as well as reduced risk of prosecution for breaches of OH & S. Legislation.
-
Opportunities for multiple uses of bins are presented.
-
Non-crush pickup and handling of bins negates traditional split bin damage.
-
A fully accountable bin tracking and monitoring system is built into the process.
(4) Environmental and Health benefits
-
Reduction of pressure on ecosystems and infrastructure by removal of toxicants and pollutants.
-
Includes removal of substances such as oils (note 1 litre of oil can contaminate 1 million litres of water).
-
Substantial reduction in contamination risk and passing of communicable diseases. This is particularly the case in schools and other places where large numbers of people gather. Does your school manage this risk to your children!!
-
The elimination of unpleasant and offensive odours. These odours are signs that bacteria are present. A clean and sterile bin should have no smell whatsoever.
-
The improvement of water catchments and freshwater systems.
(5) Community and Local Government Benefits.
-
Creating a healthier sustainable environment for citizens.
-
Improve amenity of the area – a key issue already subject to legislative control by one progressive capital city council.
- Reduced flies and mosquitoes
- Reduced maggots and bacteria
- Reduced risk of disease outbreak in municipality
- Reduced risk of illness in food industry
- Reduced smell in public areas
- Increased livability and visitations to commercial and public areas
-
Passive education of the community on waste reduction and water savings.
-
Improve environmental profile and maximise other environmental programs and messages.
-
Application of emergency response available in an emergent pandemic cleaning requirement.
-
Accurate collection and tracking of data (auditing and complaint minimisation).
-
Reduced pressure on staff.
-
Reduced pressure on storm water infrastructure.
(6) O.H. &. S. Benefits.
-
Reduction of the risk of transmission of disease associated with wheelie bin handling.
-
Reduction of the risk of injury to staff and clients whilst handling and cleaning bins.
-
Fully compliant with relevant Acts and processes.
-
Worksafe awarded company.
(7) Legislation, Acts. & Standards.
-
Adherence to the Standard (AS/NZS 4233.1 (1999)).
-
FreshBins recognises that we have broken new ground in our processes. To ensure the highest standards we have worked with WorkSafe in both the design and operation of our new technology as well as the processes that underpin our operations.
(8) Costs Associated with Self-Cleaning A Wheelie Bin.
Note: 100 litres per bin is an average. Some estimates are lower and some as much as 150 litres per clean to get all surfaces clean and sterilised.
Note: Water costs are widely recognised as not reflecting the true cost of producing same. As energy costs are rising it also seems likely that water costs will at some stage reflect the true cost including energy costs to produce same.
Most people find it difficult to clean all surfaces, especially around the bottom, the wheels and under the lip.
This leaves the bin vulnerable to immediate re-contamination. |
